A RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE DESIRE OF THE MAYOR AND THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI
TO APPOINT A JOBS FOR VETERANS TASK FORCE
TO PROMOTE AND ENCOURAGE THE HIRING OF
VETERANS AND TO COOPERATE WITH THE NATIONAL
AND STATE JOBS FOR VETERANS CAMPAIGN: AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has initiated
a nationwide Jobs for Veterans Campaign to improve job opportunities
for former servicemen and servicewomen; and
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Texas has appointed
a Texas Jobs for Veterans Task Force, in support of the national
campaign; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City Council of the City of
Corpus Christi enthusiastically support the concept and spirit of
the campaign; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City Council of the City of Corpus
Christi acknowledge with gratitude the contribution of all veterans
to our citizens and our city, and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City Council of the City of
Corpus Christi are acutely aware of the potential contribution return-
ing veterans will make to our community by virtue of their highly
diversified skill, and their proven dedication to good citizenship;
and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City Council of the City of
Corpus Christi have determined that the Jobs for Veterans Campaign and
the employment of veterans of the highest public priority and worthy of
the active support of all our citizens:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor and City Council shall name a
Jobs for Veterans Task Force to promote and encourage the hiring of
veterans by all employers in the City of Corpus Christi.

SECTION 2. That said Task Force include seven1(7) members
representing industry, labor, business, and veterans organizations.
SECTION 3.• That said Task Force be appointed for one year
from date of adoption of this resolution.
SECTION 4. That said Task Force be directed to cooperate
with the Texas Employment Commission, the Texas Jobs for Veterans
Task Force, the U. S. Department of Labor, Veterans Organizations, and
all persons or agencies lending their support for this challenge.
SECTION 5. The necessity for immediate implementation of
this program to promote and encourage the hiring of veterans creates
a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the
suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such
ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of
the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such emergency and
necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension of the Char-
ter rule and that this resolution shall be passed finally on the date
of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect
from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED, this

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FOREGOING
ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE SUSPEN-
SION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE
REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDI-
NANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
