AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 10382, PASSED AND APPROVED BY
THE CITY COUNCIL ON THE 28TH DAY OF JULY, 1971, BY
AMENDING SECTION 1 OF SAID ORDINANCE SO AS TO CHANGE
THE LICENSE FEE FOR RETAIL MEAT DEALERS TO $10.00 PER
EMPLOYEE IN SAID BUSINESS CONTAINING A SAVINGS CLAUSE;
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVID-
ING FOR PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS :
SECTION 1. That Section 1 of Ordinance No. 10382, passed and
approved on the 28th day of July, 1971, be and the same is hereby, amended
to hereafter read as follows:
"Section 1. Said license for said retail meat dealers shall be
issued by the Health Department of the City of Corpus Christi, and shall be
dated the lst day of January, each year, and shall be in full force and
effect for one year after the date thereof provided that those persons desir-
ing to engage in said business after the 1st day of January of any year may
obtain a license for the remaining portion of said year; said license shall
be nontransferable except by permission of the City Council, after proper
application to said Council. No refund shall be allowed on any unused por-
tion of any license. The applicant or applicants for said license shall pay
a graduated license fee on the following basis:
Said license fee to be calculated on the basis of $10.00 per employee
employed in any capacity by the said retail meat dealers. "
SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word, or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid
or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction it
shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word, or provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this
City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word,
or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict here-
with shall be, and are, repealed. Any prior ordinance providing licesne fees
contrary or inconsistent with the fees established by this ordinance are here-
by repealed and the fees established hereby shall apply.

SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its
publication one time in the official publication of the City of Corpus Christi,
which publication shall contain the caption stating in summary the purpose of
the ordinance and the penalty for violation thereof.
SECTION 5. The public importance of this ordinance creates a public
emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the
Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the
date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read
at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared
such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of the
Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its
introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after
its passage and publication, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the 3.Z.a.
day of July, 1972.

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FOREGOING
ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE SUSPEN-
SION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; 11 THEREFORE,
REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDI-
NANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
