HomeMy WebLinkAbout11123 ORD - 10/11/1972•JRR:e:10 /9/72 1st AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH BURTEX CONSTRUCTORS, INC., FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF: 1. GREENWOOD DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS - SOUTH PADRE ISLAND DRIVE TO HORNE ROAD, 2. WEST POINT ROAD IMPROVEMENTS - GREENWOOD DRIVE TO COLUMBIA PARKWAY, AND 3. GOLLIHAR ROAD WIDENING - STATE HIGHWAY 286 TO PRESCOTT STREET; APPROPRIATING OUT OF NO. 220 STREET BOND FUND $545,000, OF WHICH $520,765.94 IS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT, $1,826.47 IS FOR ADDITIONAL ENGINEERING FEES OF MUNROE & BASS, AND $22,407.59 IS FOR CONTINGENCIES AND INCIDENTAL EXPENSES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized to execute a contract with Burtex Constructors, Inc., for the construction of: 1. Greenwood Drive Improvements - South Padre Island Drive to Horne Road, 2. West Point Road Improvements - Greenwood Drive to Columbia Parkway, and 3. Gollihar Road Widening - State Highway 286 to Prescott Street, all as is more fully described in the plans and specifications and contract documents on file in the office of the City Secretary, all of which are made a part hereof by reference, and according to the bid of Burtex Constructors, Inc., opened on August 16, 1972, said bid being the lowest and most advantageous to the City of Corpus Christi. SECTION 2. There is hereby appropriated out of No. 220 Street Bond Fund $545,000, of which $520,765.94 is for the con- struction contract, $1,826.47 is for additional engineering fees of Munroe & Bass, and $22,407.59 is for contingencies and incidental expenses, all applicable to Project No. 220 -70 -113. SECTION 3. The necessity to execute the aforesaid contract and to appropriate the sums hereinabove set out at the earliest possible date so that construction may commence, creates JRR:e:10 /9/72 1st a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORADINED, thisj3aq /% day of August, 1972.
