HomeMy WebLinkAbout11229 RES - 12/27/1972A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Harry S. Truman, the thirty -third President of the United States of America, died on December 26, 1972; and WHEREAS, Harry S. Truman, by his dedication of his adult life to vigorous public service as President, United States Senator, County Judge, and County Commissioner, has set forth an example of active citizenship of the highest order for all his countrymen; and WHEREAS, President Truman's devotion to his family, by its constancy and strength despite his manifold, exacting official duties, and his habitual inculation of cherished American ideals among all who listened to him are especially worthy of remembrance today in our strife- ridden society; and WHEREAS, Mr. Truman's exaltation of the virtues or- the common man in the nation "s hig:Zest office has served noc only to lay the foundations on whi:h the history of the second half of the twentieth century has largely evolved but has given inspiration to the hope of a free world everywhere; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the inhabitant's of this City join the nation in a day of mourning on Thursday, December'28, 1972, as official recognition of the passing of this brave leader. SECTION 2. That a copy of this Resolution be conveyed to the surviving family of Harry S. Truman as a memorial to him and to convey the condolences of the City of Corpus Christi to his family.
