AN ORDINANCE
FINDING THAT THE GRANTING OF $3,000 ASSESSED
VALUE EXEMPTION FROM AD VALOREM TAXES FOR
PERSONS'S RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD WHO ARE 65
YEARS OR OLDER IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE
CITY; EXEMPTING FROM ALL AD VALOREM TAXES LEVIED
THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($3000) OF THE ASSESSED
TAXABLE VALUE OF RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD OF PERSONS
65 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER, PROVIDING FOR EXECU-
TION OF APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION ON THE ATTACHED
EXHIBIT "A" INCORPORATED HEREIN, OR REVISION
THEREOF, DURING RENDITION TIME, PROVIDING FOR
REQUIRING CERTAIN INFORMATION THEREON; PROVIDING
THAT THIS ORDINANCE IS CUMULATIVE; PROVIDING FOR
AN EFFECTIVE DATE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION.
WHEREAS, Article III, Section lb, Texas Constitution,
was amended as provided. by S.J.R. No. 7, Acts 62nd Legislature,
Regular Session, 1971, by vote of the citizens of the State on
November 7, 1972, so as to authoriTe any city to exempt not less
than Three Thousand Dollars ($3006) of the assessed value of
residence homesteads of per -,ons :sixty -five (65) years of aaa or
older from all ad valorem taxes Levied; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 11,001, passed and approve3 by
the City Council on July 31, 1972, prescribed the taxes to be
levied, assessed and collected by the City for the year 1972
and for each succeeding year; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus
Christi, Texas, hereby finds that providing the aforesaid
exemption is advantageous to those taxpaying citizens over
sixty -five (65) years of age who have contributed to the well
being of the City throughout their life and said exemption will
not unduly burden the other taxpaying citizens, the City finan-
cial condition, impair the retirement of City Bonds or impair
the obligations of the contract by which any debt was created:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That there is hereby exempted from all
ad valorem taxes levied after January 1, 1973, Three Thousand

Dollars ($3000) of the assessed taxable value of residence
homesteads as that term is defined by the State Constitution
and law of persons sixty -five (65) years of age or older;
provided, however, that the exemption will not attach to any
residence homestead until and unless the owner thereof or his
duly authorized agent or attorney applies at the City Tax Office
for the exemption completely executing the form attached hereto
as Exhibit "A" and made a part hereof the same as if incorporated
herein, or any revision thereof which includes an affirmative
statement that the applicant is sixty -five (65) years of age or
older, is owner of the property for which the exemption is sought,
applicant resides on the property, property is homestead under
Constitution and laws of the State, the form is signed by the
head of tba family and acknowledged by a Clerk of the Tax Office.
Said fair, shall be executed between January 1 and April 30 of
each year and failure to execute ar.d file said form by April 30
of any year forfeits the exemption for that year.
.SECTION 2. That this ordinance is and shall be construed
as cunulative of all other ordinances and merely adds the afore-
said exemption upon proper application.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be effective from and
after January 1, 1973.
SECTION 4. If for any reason any section, paragraph,
subdivision, clause, phrase, word, or provision of this ordinance
shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a
court of competent jurisdiction it shall not affect any other
section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word, or provision
of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City
Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word, or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its
purpose.
SECTION 5. Publication shall be made one time in the
official publication of the City of Corpus Christi, by publishing
