A RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF A & I
UNIVERSITY AT CORPUS CHRISTI THE SUPPORT OF
THE CITY COUNCIL OF CORPUS CHRISTI IN CONTINUING
THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT THE SAID A & I UNIVERSITY
AT CORPUS CHRISTI; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, as the
elected representatives of the citizens of the City of Corpus Christi,
desires to convey its feeling that athletic education is necessary to
the development of the youth of this country; and
«&S, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi desires
to support vigorous athletic activity among the youth of this country:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council fully supports the athletic
program of University of Corpus Christi and urges the continuation of said
athletic program by Texas A & I University at Corpus Christi and as an
expression of such support authorizes the forwarding of copies of this
resolution to the Board of Trustees of A & I University at Corpus Christi
and to the President, Dr. D. Whitney Halladay.
SECTION 2. The necessity to convey the support of the citizens
of the City of Corpus Christi in urging the continuation of the athletic
program at A & I University at Corpus Christi creates a public emergency
and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter
rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date
of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read
at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having
declared that such emergency and necessity exist, and having requested
the suspension of the Charter rule and that this resolution be passed
finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full
force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO
RESOLVED, this the 10th day of January, 1973.

ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE SUSPEN-
SION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL] 1, THEREFORE
REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDI-
NANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
