JRR:m1:2- 26- 73;lst • AN ORDINANCE DIVIDING THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, INTO FORTY -EIGHT (48) ELECTION PRECINCTS FOR AND IN WHICH ALL MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS SHALL HEREAFTER BE HELD IN AND FOR SAID CITY AND SAME SHALL BE KNOWN AS ELECTION PRECINCTS WITH THE RESPECTIVE NUMBERS; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi is contemplating holding a general election on May 5, 1973; and WHEREAS, by virtue of the City Charter and the general laws of the State of Texas, the City Council is authorized to prescribe the procedure for calling and holding elections and defining voting precincts; and WHEREAS, the City Council did on the V -,-k day of 1973, by Ordinance No. //y . create and divide the Citr of Corpus Christi into Forty -eight (48) wards, and since the passage of said ordinance there has been no action by thy: City Council to divide the City into corresponding election precincts: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COLNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus is hereby divided into Forty -eight precincts within said City, within which respec- tive precincts the legally qualified voters residing in said election precincts shall vote in all elections as provided by law and that said election precincts shall be defined, described and bounded as follows: (1) Election Princinct Number One (1) shall be composed of the first ward of the said City. (2) Election Precinct Number Two (2) shall be composed of the second ward of the said City. (3) Election Precinct Number Three (3) shall be composed of the third ward of the said City. (4) Election Precinct Number Four (4) shall be composed of the fourth ward of the said City. (5) Election Precinct Number Five (5) shall be composed of the fifth ward of the said City. 31329 (6) Election Precinct Number Six (6) shall be com - posed of the sixth ward of the said City. (7) Election Precinct Number Seven (7) shall be com - posed of the seventh ward of the said City. (8) Election Precinct Number Eight (8) shall be com - posed of the eighth ward of the said City. (9) Election Precinct Number Nine (9) shall be com- posed of the ninth ward of the said City. (10) Election Precinct Number Ten (10) shall be com- posed of the tenth ward of the said City. (11) Election Precinct Number Eleven (11) shall be com- posed of the eleventh ward of the said City. (12) Election Precinct Number Twelve (12) shall be com- posed of the twelfth ward of the said City. (13) Election Precinct Number Thirteen (13) shall be com - posed of the thirteenth ward of the said City. (14) Election Precinct Number Fourteen (14) shall be com - posed of the fourteenth ward of the said City. (15) Election Precinct Number Fifteen (15) shall be com - posed of the fifteenth ward of the said City. (16) Election Precinct Number Sixteen (16) :hall be com- posed of the sixteenth ward of the said City. (23) Election Precinct Number Twenty -three (23) shall be composed of the twenty -third of the said City. (24) Election Precinct Number Twenty -four (24) shall be composed of the twenty- fourth ward of the said City. (27) Election Precinct Number Twenty -seven (27) shall be composed of the twenty- seventh ward of,the said City. (28) Election Precinct Number-Twenty -eight (28) shall be composed of the twenty- eighth ward of the said City. (29) Election Precinct Number Twenty -nine (29) shall be composed of the twenty -ninth ward of the said City. (30) Election Precinct Number Thirty (30) shall be com- posed of the thirtieth ward of the said City. (31) Election Precinct Number Thirty -one (31) shall be composed of the thirty -first ward of the said City. (32) Election Precinct Number Thirty - two (32) shall be composed of the thirty- second ward of the said City. (33) Election Precinct Number Thirty -three (33) shall be composed of the thirty -third ward of the said City. (34) Election Precinct Number Thirty -four (34) shall be composed of the thirty - fourth ward of the said City. (35) Election Precinct Number Thirty -five (35) shall be composed of the thirty -fifth ward of the said City.•. >' (36) Election Precinct Number Thirty -six (36) shall be composed of the thirty -sixth ward of tY.e said City. (37) Election Precinct Number Thirty -seven (37)- shall be composed of the thirty- seventh ward of the said City. (38) Election Precinct Number Thirty -eight (38) shall be composed of the thirty -eight ward of the said City. (39) Election Precinct Number Thirty -nine (39) shall be composed of the thirty -ninth ward of the said City. (40)_ Election Precinct Number Forty (40) shall be com- posed of the fortieth ward of the said City. (41) Election Precinct Number Forty -one (41) shall be composed of the forty -first ward of the said City. (42) Election Precinct Number Forty -two (42) shall be composed of the forty- second ward of the said City. (43) Election Precinct Number Forty -three (43) shall be composed of the forty -third ward of the said City. (44) Election Precinct Number Forty -four (44) shall be composed of the forty- fourth ward of the said City. -3- (45) Election Precinct Number Forty -five (45) shall be composed of the forty -fifth ward of the said City. (46) Election Precinct Number Forty -six (46) shall be composed of the forth -sixth ward of the said City. (47) Election Precinct Number Forty -Seven (47) shall be composed of the forty- seventh ward of the said City. (48) Election Precinct Number Forty -Eight (48) shall be composed of the forty - eighth ward of the said City. Each of the respective ward as herein referred to, are as fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 28th day of February, 1973, by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas. SECTION 2. All other ordinances which have heretofore been passed and which have set out and established election pre- cincts for the City of Corpus Christi are hereby repealed and Ordinance No. 9891 is hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 3. The fact that the City Council of the City... Of Corpus Christi deems it necessary that the City of Corpus Christi be divided into Forty -eight (48) election precincts in order to provide proper facilities for voting in the forthcoming special election and other elections to be held in the City of Corpus Christi creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this ordi- nance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the day of February, 1973.
