AN ORDINANCE
ADOPTING THE PROVISIONS OF TEXAS HIGHWAY.COM;ISSION
MINUTE ORDER NO. 67122, P,4$ED ON FEBRUARY 28, 1973
AS RELATE TO THE SPEED ZME ON PADRE ISLAND DRIVE
EXPRESSWAY LANES, FROM A POINT 2000 FEET SOUTHEAST OF
AIRTJNE ROAD TO A POINT 3,650 FEET NORTHWEST OF AYERS
STREET, ILID ESTABLISHING SPEED ZONES OF 65 MILES PER
HOUR MAXIMUM AND 50 MILES PER HOUR MINIMUM ON THE
AFORESAID PORTION OF PADRE ISLAND DRIVE; PROVIDING FOR
PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, in Nueces County, as well as various counties in the
State of Texas, the Texas Highway Department conducted engineering and
traffic investigations to determine the reasonable and safe prima facie
maximum speeds on sections of various roads and highways in the State of
Texas; and
IMEREAS, investigations reveal that a safe and prudent maximum
speed for that section of State Highway 358 (Padre Island Drive), from
Station 313 +50, Control 617 -1, in Corpus Christi, northwesterly within
the corporate limits of the City of Corpus Christi to Station 610+00,
Control 617 -1, a distance of 5.616 miles, more or less, would be 65 miles
per hour; and
WITT:REAS, the City of Corpus Christi concurs in the findings of
the Texas Highway Department and desires to go on record as supporting the
findings of the said Highway Department:
NOW, THErEFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi adopts the provisions
Of Minute Order No. 67122, passed by the Texas Highway Commission on
February 28, 19732 as relate to State Highway 358 (Padre Island Drive),
frOM Staticn 313 +50, northwesterly within the corporate limits of the City
of Corpus Christi to Station 610+00, being that portion of Padre Island
Drive from a point 2,000 feet southeast of Airline Road to a point 3,650
feet northwest of Ayers Street, establishing a maximum speed of 65 miles
per hour and a minimum speed of 50 miles per hour.

SECTION 2. Publication shall be made one time in the official
Publication of the City of Corpus Christi, by publishing the caption of
this ordinance, stating in substance the purpose of the ordinance.
SECTION 3. The necessity to concur in and adopt the speed
zones hereinabove set forth creates a public emergency and an imperative
public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its intro-
duction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three
several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such
emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension of
the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of
its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and publication, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this
