AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH
131JRTEX CONSTRUCTORS, INC. FOR CONSTRUCTION OF HORNE
ROAD STREET IMPROVEMENTS, FROM COLUMBIA PARKWAY TO MCARTHUR
STREET, AND DODDRIDGE STREET IMPROVEMENTS; APPROPRIATING
OUT OF NO. 220 STREET BOND FUND $290,000, OF WHICH
$270,328.85 IS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AND $19,671.15
FOR ICES,, PROJECT A

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT THE CITY MANAGER BE, AND HE IS HEREBY, AUTHORIZED
TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH BURTEX CONSTRUCTORS, INC. FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF
HORNE ROAD STREET IMPROVEMENTS, FROM COLUMBIA PARKWAY TO MCARTHUR STREET,
AND DODDRIDGE STREET IMPROVEMENTS, ALL AS IS MORE FULLY DESCRIBED IN THE
PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND CONTRACT DOCUMENTS ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE
CITY SECRETARY, ALL OF WHICH ARE MADE A PART HEREOF BY REFERENCE AND ACCORDING
TO THE BID OF BURTEX CONSTRUCTORS, INC., OPENED ON THE 31ST DAY OF JANUARY,
1973, THE SAID BID OF BURTEX CONSTRUCTORS, INC. BEING THE LOWEST AND MOST
ADVANTAGEOUS TO THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI.
SECTION 2. THERE IS HEREBY APPROPRIATED THE SUM OF $290,000 OUT
OF NO. 220 STREET BOND FUND, OF WHICH $270,328.85 IS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT AND $19,671.15 IS FOR CONTINGENCIES AND RELATED EXPENSES INCLUDING
LABORATORY SERVICES, ALL APPLICABLE TO PROJECT NO. 220 -70 -111. .
SECTION 3. THE NECESSITY TO EXECUTE THE AFORESAID CONTRACT AND
TO APPROPRIATE THE SUM HEREINABOVE SET OUT AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE DATE $O
THAT CONSTRUCTION MAY COMMENCE, CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE
PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE
OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION BUT
THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL (MEETINGS OF
THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY
TO EXIST, AND HAVING REQUESTED THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE AND THAT
THIS ORDINANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE
EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT IS .ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, THIS THE

• REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDI-
NANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
