A RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION FOR THE REPORTAGE BY
JIM WOOD, OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI CALLER- TIMES,
OF THE PROCEEDINGS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI GOVERNMENT AND EXPRESSING TO
HM THE BEST WISHES OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY
COUNCIL FOR HIS CONTINUED SUCCESS IN HIS PROFESSION.
WHEREAS, Jim Wood, reporter for the Corpus Christi Caller - Times,
has reported the proceedings and activities of the City of Corpus Christi
Government for 14 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wood has earned the lasting respect of those
whose work he records for the press because of the high degree of accuracy
and consistent impartiality in his writing, painful though it may be;

and
WHEREAS, Jim Wood is held in great esteem for the steadfast-
ness with which he has contended for his concept of the freedom of the
press and the public's right to know; and
WHEREAS, his knowledge of city government and local government
history is both broad and detailed and has provided City Councils a valuable
source of information; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wood is being reassigned by the Caller -Times
to Washington, D. d.:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
That the City Council, by this resolution, hereby conveys

to Jim Wood its deep appreciation for the skill and fairness with which
he has practiced journalism in the reporting of City Hall news, assures
him of their high regard for him and his work, and wishes him continuing
success in his chosen profession as he leaves the City to go to the
Nation's Capitol on assignment by the Caller- Times.

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FOREGOING
ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE SUSPEN-
SION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE,
REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDI-
NANCE FINALLY ON THE PATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
