RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO WILLIAM W.
ANDERSON FOR HIS SERVICE AS DIRECTOR OF
PLANNING FOR THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, William W. Anderson served as Director
of Planning for the City of Corpus Christi for a period of
27 years from August 1, 1946 to August 1, 1973; and
WHEREAS, he has given unsparingly of his time and
talents in this vital role for the advancement and develop-
ment of the City; and
WHEREAS, he has given meritorious counsel and
guidance to the growth of the City and his diligence in up-
holding the high standards of the profession of planning in
guiding the growth of the City of Corpus Christi has been and
will continue to be an inspiration to others who will succeed
him in this very important function of City government; and
WHEREAS, by his acceptance of civic responsibility
and devotion to his appointed tasks he is responsible for the
preparation of the City's first Comprehensive Plan and with
this plan the most significant project guided to completion
was the removal of the Bascule Bridge, railroad relocation
and construction of the harbor bridge, which removed one of
the greatest obstacles to development of the Port and growth
of Corpus Christi.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council, including all
former and present members, do agree in unison that William
W. Anderson is a deserving and worthy public official and
they wish to give public notice of their appreciation and
esteem for him:
SECTION 2. That in his retirement the best wishes
of the City Council for his well -being be conveyed to

William W. Anderson and that this resolution be recorded
in the official minutes of the City and that he be furnished
a copy of this action of the City Council.
SECTION 3. The fact that the City Council recog-
nizes the value and benefits of the role in which William
W. Anderson served the City of Corpus Christi and the community
and desires to publicly express their appreciation creates a
public emergency and imperative public necessity requiring
the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its intro-
duction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at
three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor
having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, and
having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that
this resolution be passed finally on the date of its intro-
duction and take effect and be in full force and effect from
and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED, this
the 26th day of September, 1973.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
