Jackson, retired Caller —Times editor, was on the 2nd day of October, 1973, called to his eternal reward; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson will be remembered in Corpus Christi and South Texas as a devoted citizen, civic and church leader, capable and highly regarded newspaperman, and an advocate of freedom of the press; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson served his country as an aide to then Senator Tom Connally, a member of the U. S. delegation to the San Francisco Conference at which the United Nations Charter was adopted, and also was instrumental in establishment of the Padre Island National Seashore, and the national park in the Big Thicket of East Texas; and WHEREAS, the numerous accomplishments of Mr. Jackson in the service to his community, the State of Texas and the country, will benefit especially the citizens of Corpus Christi and South Texas for many years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson's death will be a great loss to the citizens of this City and leaves a void in our community which cannot be filled; his absence will be a great lose to his many friends: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this brief record of the many accomplishments of Robert M. Jackson be recalled and that the citizens of this community join in mourning the lose of this valuable citizen; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the family of Robert M. Jackson. PASSED AND APPROVED this the 3rd day of October, 1973.
