A RESOLUTION
AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 11606, PASSED AND APPROVED
AUGUST 1, 1973, WHICH AUTHORIZED THE CITY MANAGER
TO MARE APPLICATION TO THE TEXAS HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
FOR FEDERAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE PLACEMENT OF A LOW-
SKID PAVEMENT OVERLAY ON OCEAN DRIVE FROM I.H. 37
TO ALAMEDA STREET, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE LOW-
SKID PAVEMENT OVERLAY BE EXTENDED FROM ALAMEDA STREET
TO THE NAVAL AIR STATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 11606, passed and approved by the
City Council on August 1, 1973, authorized the City Manager to make
application to the Texas Highway Department for Federal assistance for
the placement of a low -skid pavement overlay on Ocean Drive from I.H. 37
to Alameda Street; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that the safety and welfare
of the citizens of Corpus Christi will be better served by extending said
low -skid pavement overlay from Alameda Street to the Naval Air Station:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Resolution No. 11606, passed and approved by
the City Council on August 1, 1973, which authorized the City Manager to
make application to the Texas Highway Department for Federal assistance for
the placement of a low -skid pavement overlay on Ocean Drive from I.H. 37 to
Alameda Street, be amended so as to extend said low -skid pavement overlay
from Alameda Street to the Naval Air Station.
SECTION 2. The necessity to amend the above - referenced Resolution
at the earliest possible date so that work on this project may proceed in an
orderly manner creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity
requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution
shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordi-
nance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City
Council, and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency and necessity
exist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended and that this
Resolution be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect

and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY
SO RESOLVED, this the 31st day of October, 1973.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
