HomeMy WebLinkAbout11989 RES - 04/03/1974• :7 A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Dr. Clarence Cottam, a well -known figure in the conservation field, was on March 30, 1974, called to his eternal rest; and WHEREAS, Dr. Cottam will be remembered as the organizer of the Welder Wildlife Refuge at Sinton, and as its first Director, having first visited the Coastal Bend area some years ago; and WHEREAS, Dr. Cottam's illustrious career will be long remembered not only in the Coastal Bend but throughout this country and Canada for his work, his study and research of wildlife, their management and preservation, for his leadership in the fight to control insecticides that had threatened many species of animal, marine and bird life; and WHEREAS, Dr. Cottam actively campaigned for the creation of the Padre Island National Seashore and worked for expansion of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, internationally known for the preservation of the whooping crane, bald eagle and brown pelican; and WHEREAS, this outstanding citizen was active in church and civic affairs and served with distinction on numerous boards and commis- sions throughout the country in the interest of conservation; he was the recipient of countless local, State, national and international honors; and WHEREAS, Dr. Cottam's vast knowledge and his untiring service to the community and to mankind in general have benefited innumerable people, and his passing is a great loss to the citizens of the Coastal Bend area as well as to his family and many friends, leaving an irreplace- able void in the community: NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this brief record of the many accomplishments of Dr. Clarence Cottam be recalled and that the citizens of this community join in mourning the loss of this valuable citizen. 0'. Corpus Christi, Texas day of , l9_Z�Z TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen- sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi- nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
