HomeMy WebLinkAbout11990 RES - 04/03/1974A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, George Lowman, a long -time resident of Corpus Christi, was on March 31, 1974, called to his eternal reward; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lowman will be remembered in Corpus Christi as a proponent of law and order, having served on the police force as a rank and file member, as Chief of Police for the City of Corpus Christi, and as a Deputy Sheriff; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lowman, a graduate of the F.B.I. Academy, dis- tinguished himself as the State's youngest Police Chief at the age of 28 years and while serving as the Police Chief was instrumental in reorganizing the Corpus Christi Police Department, creating numerous sections within the Department and envisioning the need for well- trained and qualified policemen, instituted the Department's Police School; and WHEREAS, during his tenure as a City Councilman numerous public works and community projects were undertaken and completed, and envisioning the need for improved, adequate accommodations for community events as well as attracting tourists and convention groups to Corpus Christi, the Exposition Hall and Memorial Coliseum were constructed; and WHEREAS, the many accomplishments of Mr. Lowman in his service to the community will benefit especially the citizens of Corpus Christi for many years, and his absence will be a great loss to his family and friends: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this brief record of the accomplishments of Mr. George Lowman be recalled and that the citizens of this community join in mourning his passing. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. George Lowman. PASSED AND APPROVED, this the 3rd day of April, 1974. TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas 41 Corpus Christi, Texas day of 19 For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen- sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi- nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
