A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Charles A. Bonniwell III, former Corpus Christi Mayor
pro tempore, City Councilman, attorney and community leader, met his untimely
death on April 30, 1974, as the result of an aviation disaster; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bonniwell's illustrious career and achievements, both
in law and community affairs, will be long remembered and appreciated not
only in Corpus Christi but in the entire Coastal Bend Area; and
WHEREAS, among others, Mr. Bonniwell's achievements include service
as Chairman of the Board of the State Junior Bar of Texas, Chairman of the
Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Nueces County Bar Association,
Board Director in the Nueces County Community Action Agency, and Chairman
of the Public Protection Committee of the Coastal Bend Council of Governments;
and
WHEREAS, this outstanding citizen was active in St. Bartholomew's
Episcopal Church and participated in many civic and community affairs with
a view to betterment and development of the entire region; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bonniwell's vast knowledge of legal matters and com-
munity affairs have benefited innumerable citizens, and his passing is a
great loss to his family and many friends as well as to the Coastal Bend Area,
leaving an irreplaceable void in the community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That this brief record of the many accomplishments of
Mr. Charles A. Bonniwell III be recalled and that the citizens of this
community join in mourning the loss of this valuable citizen.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded
to the family of Mr. Charles A. Bonniwell III.

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
