Flato, member of a pioneer family of South Texas, was on May 9, 1974 called to his eternal rest; and WHEREAS, Mr. Flato will be remembered in Corpus Christi and South Texas as a devoted citizen, a long -time civic leader, and real estate developer; and WHEREAS, many of the benefits derived by the citizens of Corpus Christi and surrounding area have been as a result of the insight and out- standing leadership of Mr. Flato, and during the crisis over drilling for oil and gas in Corpus Christi Bay in the 196Os, he was an outspoken local critic of unrestricted drilling; and WHEREAS, Mr. Flato was instrumental in promoting the present building for the Corpus Christi Yacht Club, and throughout his career, he encouraged Corpus Christi to preserve and promote its recreational attrac- tions, and was continuously promoting this area as a national tourist attraction; and WHEREAS, among his many activities, Mr. Flato served his community as a Director of the Corpus Christi Area Tourist Bureau, was formerly President of the United Fund, Boys City, the Buccaneer Commission, the South Texas Chapter of the Association of the United States Army, a former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, and a trustee on the Board of Schreiner Institute in Kerrville; and WHEREAS, Mr. Flato's vast knowledge and his untiring service to the community have benefited innumerable people, and his passing is a great loss to the citizens of the City of Corpus Christi as well as his family and many friends, leaving an irreplaceable void in the community: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this brief record of the many accomplishments of Mr. Robert H. Flato be recalled and that the citizens of this community join in mourning the loss of this valuable citizen. 12057 Corpus Christi, Texas day of 19_7 TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen- sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi- nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
