AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT
WITH ASPHALT MAINTENANCE COMPANY, INC. FOR CON-
STRUCTION OF COLE PARK, SCIENCE PARK, AND T -HEAD
IMPROVEMENTS AND LOUISIANA AVENUE - OCEAN DRIVE
INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS; APPROPRIATING $50,000,
INCLUDING $46,574.95 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION CON-
TRACT AND $3,425.95 FOR CONTINGENCIES AND IN-
CIDENTAL EXPENSES FROM THE VARIOUS FUNDS AND
APPLICABLE PROJECTS AS MORE FULLY SET FORTH HERE-
INAFTER; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized
to execute a contract with Asphalt Maintenance Company, Inc. for con-
struction of Cole Park, Science Park, and T -Head Improvements and Louisiana
Avenue - Ocean Drive Intersection Improvements, all as is more fully
described in the plans and specifications and contract documents on file
in the office of the City Secretary, all of which are made a part hereof
by reference and according to the bid of Asphalt Maintenance Company,
opened on the 15 day of May , 1974, said bid of Asphalt
Maintenance Company, Inc, being the lowest and most advantageous to the
City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 2. There is hereby appropriated the sum of $50,000,
including $45,574,95 for the construction contract and $3,425.95 for con-
tingencies and incidental expenses from the various bond funds and applic-
able to the various projects as follows:

SECTION 3. The necessity to authorize the execution of the afore-
said contract and to appropriate the sums hereinabove set forth at the
earliest practicable date so that the construction may be commenced without
delay creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring
the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be
passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council,
and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist,
having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance
take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage,

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
