AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING THE CITY BUDGET: APPROPRIATING $13,590
OUT OF NO. 220 STREET BOND FOND, PROJECT 220 -70-
105 TO SUPPLEMENT EXISTING SUMS ALREADY AUTRORIZED
FOR THE INSTALLATION OF AN ILLUMINATION SYSTEM ON
STATE HIGHWAY 358, FROM I.H. 37 TO AIRLINE ROAD,
SAID APPROPRIATION BEING FOR THE CITY'S SHARE OF
COST TO CONVERT THE ILLUMINATION SYSTEM FROM
MERCURY VAPOR TO HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM VAPOR ON
THAT PORTION ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 358 FROM I.H.
37 TO FORREST LANE AND INCLUDING THE INTERCHANGE
AT STATE HIGHWAY 44, WHICH AMOUNT IS TO BE PLACED
IN ESCROW WITH THE STATE TREASURER, ACCOUNT OF
TRUST FUND NO. 927; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That there is hereby appropriated $130590 out of
No. 220 Street Bond Fund, Project No. 220 -70 -105, to supplement existing
sums already authorized for the installation of an illumination system on
State Highway 358 from I.H. 37 to Airline, said appropriation being for
the City's share of cost to convert the illumination system from mercury
vapor to high pressure sodium vapor lights on that portion of the afore-
said project along State Highway 358 from I.H. 37 to Forrest Lane and
including the interchange at State Highway 44. This sum is to be placed
in escrow with the State Treasurer, Account of Trust Fund No. 927.
SECTION 2. Amendment of the City Budget to accomplish the
purposes of this ordinance is necessitated for emergency expenditure
in grave public necessity to meet unusual and unforeseen conditions, which
could not, by reasonable diligent thought and attention of the Government
of the City of Corpus Christi, have been included in the current, original
Budget of the City.
SECTION 3. That the necessity to appropriate the aforesaid
funds so that the installation covered by the abovementioned contract
may proceed in an orderly way creates a public emergency and an imperative
public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its intro-
duction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three
several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor,having declared such

emergency and necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of the
Charter rule and that this ordinance take effect and be in full force
and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
