A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi has
investigated and reviewed Senate Bill 702, which, if passed, would
drastically alter the structure of the Firemen's Relief and Retirement
Fund; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that Senate Bill 702,
if passed as currently proposed, would be detrimental to the actuarial
soundness of the Firemen's Relief and Retirement Fund of the various cities
of the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi
agrees that the passage of Senate Bill 702, as currently proposed, would
endanger the pension funds of firemen over the entire State of Texas:
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi
hereby expresses its unanimous opposition to Senate Bill 702 which, if
passed as currently proposed, would endanger the pension funds of firemen
over the entire State of Texas.
SECTION 2. The City Secretary of the City of Corpus Christi is
hereby instructed to forward a true copy of this resolution to the legis-
lative delegation of the City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 3. The necessity to immediately express the unanimous
opposition of this City Council to Senate Bill 702, as currently proposed,
creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring
the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance
or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council,
and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency and necessity
exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that

take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage,
IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED, this the_q 'rday of April, 1975.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
