HomeMy WebLinkAbout12606 ORD - 05/07/1975jkh:5 -6 -75; 1st AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY CODE, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING,SECTION 21 -68, INCREASE OF STATE SPEED LIMIT IN CERTAIN ZONES, SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR SPEED LIMIT OF 35 MILES PER HOUR, AT ALL TIMES, ON NORTH AND SOUTH SHORELINE BOULEVARD, NORTH BOUND ONLY, FROM THE NORTH CURB LINE OF CRAIG AVENUE TO HIRSCH STREET; AND AMENDING SECTION 21 -69, DECREASE OF STATE LAW MAXIMUM SPEED, SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR SPEED LIMIT OF 25 MILES PER HOUR, WHEN FLASHERS ARE OPERAT- ING DESIGNATING SUCH SPEED, ON NORTH SHORELINE BOULEVARD, NORTH BOUND ONLY, FROM A POINT 588 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF PARK AVENUE TO A POINT 390 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF PARK AVENUE; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. 11084, passed and approved by the City Council on September 20, 1972, the designation of East Shoreline Boulevard and West Shoreline Boulevard was terminated and in lieu thereof, the thoroughfares were respectively named as North Shoreline Boulevard (both directions) from Carroll Street, south to Cooper Street, and South Shoreline Boulevard (both directions) from Cooper Street, south to Craig Street; and WHEREAS, in view of the aforesaid street name changes, it is necessary to clarify that portion of the City Code which sets forth the speed limits on the above designated streets: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Corpus Christi City Code, as amended, be and the same is hereby amended by amending Section 21 -68, Increase of State Speed Limit in Certain Zones, so as to correct the designation of that portion of Shoreline Boulevard to hereafter read as follows: ` NAME OF STREET North and South Shoreline Blvd., North bound only, from the north curb line of Craig Avenue to Hirsch Street EFFECTIVE SPEED LIMIT TIMES 35 miles -per hour. At,all.times SECTION 2, Amending the Corpus Christi City Code, as amended, by amending Section 21 -69, Decrease of State Law Maximum Speed, so as to correct the designation of that portion of Shoreline Boulevard to.here- after read as'follows: /��06 NAME OF STREET North Shoreline Blvd., North bound only, from a point 588 feet south of the centerline of Park Avenue to a point 390 feet north of the centerline of Park Avenue SPEED LIMIT 'EFFECTIVE TIMES When flashers are operating designat- 25 miles per hour ing such speed SECTION 3. Publication shall be made one time in the official publication of the City of Corpus Christi, by publishing the caption of this ordinance, Stating in substance the purpose of the ordinance. SECTION 4. The necessity to clarify the designation of the aforesaid streets, within the limits defined, as to the speed limits hereinabove set forth creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its intro - duction'but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspen- sion of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the day of May, 1975.
