AN ORDINANCE
CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF
THE RUNOFF ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING
THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI HELD ON THE 20TH DAY OF MAY, 1975;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, heretofore on the 7th day of May, 1975, the Mayor of
the City of Corpus Christi caused to be published a proclamation announcing
the runoff election to be held on the 20th day of May, 1975; and
WHEREAS, notice of said election was actually given as required
by law and as directed in the said proclamation, as is shown by affidavit
properly filed in the office of the City Secretary; and
WHEREAS, said election was duly and legally held on the 20th
day of May, 1975, in conformity with the election laws of the State of
Texas, and the results of said election have been certified and returned
by the proper judges and clerks thereof; and
WHEREAS, this Council has today considered the returns of said
election held on the 20th day of May, 1975; and
WHEREAS, it appears to the Council, and the Council so finds,
that the said runoff election was in all respects lawfully held; and
WHEREAS, it appears to the Council, and the Council so finds,
that the City Secretary has tabulated the results of said election and
certified such tabulation to the Council, and that such tabulation is
correct:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the tabulation of votes cast in the runoff
election held on the 20th day of May, 1975, made and certified to by the
City Secretary of the City of Corpus Christi, a copy of which is attached
hereto and made a part hereof, be and the same is hereby adopted as the
official tabulation of the votes cast at said election and that said
tabulation be filed and recorded in the official records of the City of
Corpus Christi as the official canvass of said election.
SECTION 2. That the said official canvass of the returns of the
said election reflects the following:

COUNCIL MEMBER PLACE 3: CABE LOZANO, SR.
COUNCIL MEMBER PLACE 4: BILL TIPTON
COUNCIL MEMBER PLACE 5: EDWARD L. SAMPLE
for the ensuing two years and that they are hereby declared so elected.
SECTION 3. The necessity of making an official canvass of
votes cast in the aforesaid runoff election and declaring the said results
of said election creates a public emergency and an imperative public
necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance
or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings
of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such emergency and
necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of the Charter rule
and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction
and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage,
IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the tL day of May, 1975.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
