HomeMy WebLinkAbout12635 ORD - 06/11/1975MLM :jkh:hb:5 /27175:lst i I AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 4168, GENERALLY REFERRED TO AS THE "PLATTING ORDINANCE ", AS AMENDED, BY ADDING TO SECTION V, SUBSECTION B, A NEW ITEM, TO BE DESIGNATED AS ITEM 10, REQUIRING AS PART OF THE SUBDIVISION IMPROVEMENTS IN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, THE INSTALLATION OF RAMPS FOR THE HANDICAPPED AND BICYCLE USERS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Ordinance No. 4168 , generally known as the Platting Ordinance, as amended, be and the same is hereby amended by amending Section V, Subsection B, thereof so as to add a new item, Item 10, Ramps for the Handicapped, to hereafter read as follows: "10. It shall be required also as part of the subdivision development that ramps be constructed of reinforced concrete with the same reinforcing as required of sidewalks. The ramps should be constructed in an angular direction and tie into the intersections of the sidewalks at each corner of the street to facilitate the easy access to and from the streets and sidewalk by physically handicapped persons, bicycle users, and strollers. The ramps shall be so designed that only residential streets shall be affected. No ramps shall be constructed leading to a crossing of collector or major street thoroughfares, unless the collector and the major street thoroughfare is controlled by stop signs or traffic signals." SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, sub- division, clause, phrase, word, or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word, or provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word, or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose. SECTION 3. Publication shall be made one time in the official publication of the City of Corpus Christi, by publishing the caption of this ordinance, stating in substance the purpose of the ordinance. 12635 PLATTING ORDINANCE AMENDMENT TO INCLUDE RAMPS FOR THE HANDICAPPED, BICYCLES, AND STROLLERS Recommendation that ramps for the handicapped be adopted as part of the required improvements in all subdivisions in the City of Corpus Christi and that Section V, Subsection B be modified by adding Item 10, titled Ramps For The Handicapped, as follows: "It shall be required also as part of the subdivision development that ramps be constructed of reinforced concrete with the same rein- forcing as required of sidewalks. The ramps should be constructed in an angular direction and tie into the intersections of the sidewalks at each corner of the street to facilitate the easy access to and from the streets and sidewalk by physically handicapped persons, bicycle users, and strollers.
