HomeMy WebLinkAbout12977 RES - 01/14/1976• JKH:vmr:vp:1.2 /31/75 _ • A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the concept for developing Goals for Corpus Christi began in December of 1973 and a committee of numerous citizens sharing a concern for the orderly growth of Corpus Christi was formed in May of 1974; and, WHEREAS, financial support for the Goals Program has been provided by the Area Development Committee of the Chamber of Commerce ($32,000), the Department of Housing and Urban Development through its contract with the City of Corpus Christi ($25,000), the City of Corpus Christi through local revenue ($25,000), Nueces County ($25,000), and other contributions and the sale of publications; and, WHEREAS, the Goals Program has carried out a process through which views of many citizens were incorporated into a series of goals statements which became the basis for a process of public opinion polling which has included the publication of Choices Facing Corpus Christi and the presenta- tion of ten 30- minute television programs which have focused on the issues facing Corpus Christi and provided a method for the public to indicate its choices on these issues; and, WHEREAS, the Area Development Committee of the Chamber of Commerce has since 1950 been actively involved in the development of overall plans for the growth of the community and in the coordination, encouragement, and implementation of these plans; and, WHEREAS, the Area Development Committee has indicated its willingness to accept the responsibility of utilizing the work done by Goals for Corpus Christi and to help bring about tangible results to help guide the community and its governmental entities in the directions indicated by the opinions of those who were involved in the Goals Process and those who expressed their views on the various issues involved; and, WHEREAS, the Area Development Committee has expressed a willingness to continue to develop private contributions to help finance the further development of community plans and the coordination of the implementation of those plans: JL297 7 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: (1) That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi hereby requests the Area Development Committee of the Chamber of Commerce to accept a leadership role in further developing plans which will lead the community in the direction indicated by the Goals Process and to act as the expeditor for those programs involving several units of government or requiring a further expression of public support; (2) That the Area Development Committee fully utilize the work done by the Goals Committee and, in particular, continue the involvement of the many citizens who participated in the various committees of the Goals Program by utilizing these individuals in advisory committees and in other meaningful and responsible positions; (3) That the Area Development Committee and the Planning Commission be encouraged to coordinate their plans and other activities so that the actions recommended can be concurred in by both bodies; (4) That the Area Development Committee be urged to discuss with the City Council, Planning Commission, and City staff any expenditure of its resources which may be designed to develop plane and action timetables regard- ing physical facilities and service programs which are, or might be, the implementing responsibility of the City of Corpus Christi; and (5) That the Area Development Committee is hereby urged to maintain a level of communication with the City Council, the Planning Commission, and the public which will enable the community to be advised of the steps being taken and the progress being attained.
