HomeMy WebLinkAbout13407 ORD - 09/22/1976JKH ;vmr:9- 21- 76;lst TEXAS: AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CORPUS CHRISTI SYMPHONY BY THE TERMS OF WHICH THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI WILL PAY $12,000 AS LOCAL MATCHING FUNDS FOR AN OUTREACH PROGRAM FUNDED BY A GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT OF ARTS AS PROVIDED FOR IN THE 1976 -77 BUDGET, AND ACCORDING TO THE AGREEMENT, A SUBSTANTIAL COPY OF WHICH IS ATTACHED HERETO, MARKED EXHIBIT "A", AND MADE A PART HEREOF; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, SECTION 1. That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized to execute an agreement with the Corpus Christi Symphony by the terms of which the City of Corpus Christi will pay $12,000 as local matching funds for an outreach program funded by a grant from the National Endowment of Arts as provided for in the 1976 -77 Budget, and according to the agreement, a sub- stantial copy of which is attached hereto, marked Exhibit "A ", and made a part hereof. SECTION 2. The necessity to authorize execution of the agreement as aforesaid creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity re- quiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance take effect and be in full force and effect from and of r its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED this the ;1 h day of '4f , 1976. BRUCE AYCOCK, CITY ATTORNEY �Mda"4 - - Assistant City Attorney/ JUN 3 a 1980 'IIOROFILMED 13407 �;t� AGREEMENT THE STATE OF TEXAS x COUNTY OF NUECES X WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi is interested in providing support of the expansion of symphony programs to a broader cross - section of the citizens of Corpus Christi by the Corpus Christi Symphony; and WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Symphony has agreed to provide such programs, with an emphasis on reaching Mexican - Americans, the following contract and agreement is entered into between the City of Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Symphony: The Corpus Christi Symphony agrees to provide symphony music as follows: A. To provide two free public concerts: A Pops concert to be given in October as part of the Bayfest including the Corpus Christi Commodores; and a choral concert, The Messiah, in December. B. To provide members of the orchestra at Community Centers, including Recreation Centers throughout the City, with dif- ferent types of musical happenings for each center-including, string trios and quartets, Jazz groups, percussion groups, flutdphone lessons, and other performances by members of the orchestra. C. To provide six back -to -back concerts in the Junior High Schools at 8:30 in the morning allowing a continuance of concerts for the students past the elementary level. In consideration of the Corpus Christi Symphony providing the above and foregoing symphony music to the citizens of Corpus Christi, the City of Corpus Christi agrees to pay to the Corpus Christi Symphony the sum of $12,000. The appropriation•of the City of Corpus Christi for the Corpus Christi Symphony may be used as matching funds by the Corpus Christi Symphony in participation in the aforementioned program through a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts.
