A RESOLUTION
ENDORSING THE APPLICATION OF HUGHES AIRWEST TO
THE CIVIL AERONAUTICS BOARD TO SERVE VARIOUS
WESTERN CITIES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, Hughes Airwest has made application to the Civil
Aeronautics Board for service through the Tucson and Phoenix gateways
to points in Louisiana and Texas, including Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, such service would include two daily trips from
Corpus Christi to San Antonio, E1 Paso and Las Vegas; and
WHEREAS, further single carrier service, not now available to
Corpus Christi, would be provided to Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Nevada and
other points; and
WHEREAS, this additional service will stimulate air traffic
in the Corpus Christi, San Antonio and E1 Paso markets and in the Corpus
Christi — Western states market; and
WHEREAS, Hughes Airwest is seeking an expedited hearing before
the Civil Aeronautics Board:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Corpus Christi,
Texas hereby expresses its support of and fully endorses the proposed
expanded service of Hughes Airwest.
SECTION 2. The City Council hereby finds that such expanded
service will be beneficial to the citizens of Corpus Christi providing
additional air service from the City to other points in the United States,
as well as stimulating air traffic and economic growth.
SECTION 3. The need for expanded air service from Corpus
Christi to various points west creates a public emergency and an imperative
public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its
introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three
several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such
emergency and necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of the

Charter rule and that this resolution take effect and be in full force and
effect from and aft its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED this the
