A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Bayfest '76 was conceived by the Junior League of
Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Arts Council to bring to the citizens
a fun - filled family festival in celebration of our nation's Bicentennial; and
WHEREAS, Bayfest '76 provided an opportunity for every civic
organization in the City of Corpus Christi to involve the total community in
a grassroots celebration of our nation's 200th birthday; and
WHEREAS, Bayfest 176 was a multi - cultural folk festival and
provided the citizens of Corpus Christi an opportunity to enjoy a wide variety
of live musical and dance entertainment, a colorful blend of arts and crafts,
heritage displays, children's activities, and a variety of foods from many
lands; and
WHEREAS, Bayfest '76 provided the citizens of Corpus Christi an
opportunity to enjoy our beautiful bayfront area and to participate in the
Bicentennial celebration in a friendly, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council hereby expresses its deep
appreciation and pays tribute to the many civic organizations, community groups
and hundreds of volunteers who freely gave of their time, effort and talent to
make Bayfest '76 a highlight of the City of Corpus Christi's celebration of our
nation's 200th birthday.
SECTION 2. A special note of appreciation is hereby extended
to the co- chairpersons of Bayfest '76, Susan Kennedy and Kathryn Childers.
SECTION 3. The City Council hereby encourages all of those
involved in organizing and carrying out Bayfest '76 to continue the event as
an annual festival on the shores of Corpus Christi Bay.
SECTION 4. The City Secretary is hereby instructed to send
copies of this resolution to Susan Kennedy and Kathryn Childers, co- chairpersons
for Bayfest '76.

SECTION 5. The fact that the City Council desires to express
its appreciation to all citizens, civic organizations and community groups
who were instrumental in organizing and carrying out Bayfest '76 and to

encourage the continuation of the festival as an annual event creates a public
emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the
Charter role that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the
date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read
at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared
such emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension of
the Charter rule and that this resolution take effect and be in full force and
effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO,RESOLVED, this the

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension
of the Charter Rule or requirement that no Ordinance or Resolution shall be
passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter Rule or requirement and pass this
ordinance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of
the City Council.
