A RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE INTENTION OF THE CITY TO CONTINUE
THE NARCOTICS TASK FORCE IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
AND TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY FUNDS FOR SUCH
OPERATION UPON THE EXPIRATION OF THE GRANT FROM
THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the City Council on September 29, 1976, enacted
Ordinance No. 13426, authorizing submission of a grant application to
the Criminal Justice Division for funding of a Narcotics Task Force in
the Police Department of the City of Corpus Christi, said project to be
funded from January 1, 1977, through December 31, 1977; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to declare its intention to
continue the program upon the expiration of the funding by the Criminal
Justice Division:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council hereby declares its intention
to continue the Narcotics Task Force in the Police Department, heretofore
funded by the Criminal Justice Division, said funding to expire on December
319 1977, and in this connection intends to provide the funds necessary
for,the continuation of the aforesaid program in the amount of twenty
percent (20 %) of the following year's operating expense ($69,000), or one-
hundred percent (100 %) should Criminal Justice Division funds not be
budgeted for the following year's operating expense.
SECTION 2. The necessity to express the intention of the City
to continue the Narcotics Task Force as hereinabove stated creates a public
emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of
the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally
on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor
having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested
,the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance take effect

and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORD-
INGLY SO ORDAINED this the day of December, 1976.

NANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
