Albert Lichtenstein, a long -time resident and member of a pioneer Corpus Christi family, was on December 10, 1976, called to his eternal rest; and WHEREAS, A. Albert Lichtenstein will be remembered in Corpus Christi as a prominent businessman and community activist, and among his many accom- plishments are the following: active membership in the Corpus Christi Jewish Community Council, designated'as Outstanding Jewish Citizen by the B'Nai Brith in 1947; instrumental in the formation of the local Better Business Bureau; member of numerous citizens' groups, city commissions and charitable organizations; and active in encouragement and development of low -cost rental housing and elimination of slums; and WHEREAS, A. Albert Lichtenstein was well -known as a tireless worker, dedicated citizen of his community, and while serving as Mayor of the City of Corpus Christi, from 1953 to 1954, his administration was one of the most active in the history of the City, dominated by his dynamic personality, and the plans and programs formulated during his administration have had far - reaching and long - lasting effects on the community, principal among them being the starting of a five -year program to meet the City's water, sewer, street and drainage needs, and the beginning of a strong tradition of professionalism in the administration of local government affairs; and WHEREAS, his vast knowledge and untiring service to the community have benefited innumerable people, and his passing is a great loss to the citizens of the City of Corpus Christi as well as to his family and many friends, leaving an irreplaceable void in the community: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this brief record of the many accomplishments of A. Albert Lichtenstein be recalled and that the citizens of this community join in mourning the loss of this valuable citizen. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the family of A.
