HomeMy WebLinkAbout13561 ORD - 01/12/1977N JKH:vmr: #-st AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CONTRACT HERETOFORE ENTERED INTO BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI AND THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE FIGHTERS, LOCAL UNION 936, AUTHORIZED BY ORDINANCE NO. 13305, PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON JULY 28, 19762 BY AMENDING ARTICLE IV, SECTION 2, SUBSECTION (b), PARAGRAPH 2, OF SAID CONTRACT SO AS TO ESTABLISH AN ADDITIONAL FIREFIGHTER II ELIGIBILITY ROSTER, ALL AS MORE FULLY SET FORTH HEREINAFTER; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. t BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, SECTION 1. That the contract heretofore entered into by and between the City of Corpus Christi and the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local Union 936, authorized by Ordinance No. 13305, passed and approved by the City Council on July 28, 1976, be and the same is hereby amended by amending Article IV, Section 2, Subsection (b), paragraph 2, to hereafter read as follows: 2. After 60 original vacancies as provided in Art. IV, Section 2, subsection B.1 have been filled, all employees hired after October 1, 1973, must have current EMT certification prior to promotion to the classification of Fire Fighter II. All employees hired prior to October 1, 1973, shall not be required to have EMT certification prior to promotion to the position of Fire Fighter II. Where applicable, lack of current EMT certification shall be considered as a valid reason for passover from any Fire Fighter IT eligibility promotional roster. After the 60 appointments to Fire Fighter II have been certified and made by the Chief consistent with the requirements of Article IV, Section 2, Subsection B, the Fire Fighter II eligibility list utilized to make such appointments shall immediately expire. To the extent these amendments alter Article 1269m, V.A.T.S., it is so altered. Thereafter, another Fire Fighter II promotional exam shall be announced and posted at all stations in accordance with the provisions of Article 1269m, V.A.T.S. This eligibility list for all promotions to the class of Fire Fighter II and shall be utilized to fill all subsequent vacancies regardless of the budget activity in which such vacancy occurs." The necessity to amend at the earliest practicable date the aforesaid contract as hereinabove set forth creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance take effect and be in full force and effect from and after i s passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the � day of 1977.
