HomeMy WebLinkAbout13644 ORD - 02/23/1977• Jkh:2- 22 -77; 1st • AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A PROPOSAL OF GROUP INSURANCE FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI PRESENTED BY CONNECTICUT GENERAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY AND TO DO THE NECESSARY THINGS REQUISITE TO PROCURING SUCH GROUP INSURANCE FOR THE EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, a municipal corpora- tion and body politic under the laws of the State of Texas, opened bids for group insurance for the employees of said City for life insurance, hospitalization insurance, and surgical insurance, opened on the 15th day of February, 1977 ; and WHEREAS, the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company has made a proposal for group insurance for the employees of the City of Corpus Christi for life insurance, hospitalization insurance and surgical insurance; and WHEREAS, it is deemed necessary to the best interests of the citizens of the City that the City employees are insured; and WHEREAS, said bid of Connecticut General Life Insurance Company is the best and most advantageous bid to the said City and its employees: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to accept the proposal of the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company for group insurance for employees of the City for life insurance, hospitalization insurance and surgical insurance, including hospital and surgical benefits for dependents, and said City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to do all things requisite to procuring such group insurance for the employees of the City and is authorized to file and execute the necessary applications and acceptances for such insurance on behalf of the City, all in accordance with and as more fully described in the speci- fications and bid of said Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, said bid opened on the 15th day of February, 1977 , all of which documents are on file in the office of the City Secretary and made a part hereof by this reference the same as if written herein. The necessit for providing for adequate insurance for employees of the City in order to protect their health and general welfare, same being to the best in erests of the City, creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction bu that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from an fter its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the i7w — of , 1977.
