AN ORDINANCE
ESTABLISHING THE POLICY TO ALLOCATE CERTAIN FUNDS
FOR ART IN PUBLIC BUILDING CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi believes
the public buildings of the City should be enhanced with works of art to
complement the natural beauty of the community; and
WHEREAS, such art has enabled people in all societies and all
ages to better understand their communities and individual lives; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to encourage art for public
places and to cause Corpus Christi to be a regional leader in public art; and
WHEREAS, the use of public funds in reasonable amounts for such
purposes is a legitimate and appropriate public expenditure.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. It is hereby determined to be the policy of the
City Council of the City of Corpus Christi that art be provided in each
public building project designed to be used and visited by the general
public.
SECTION 2. Funds for such art shall be made available from
whatever source the City Council deems appropriate.
SECTION 3. Art works contemplated herein include objects of
fine art, such as sculptures, paintings, murals, fountains, mosaics, and
tapestries, to be selected by the City Council at the time each building
project is planned and constructed.
