A RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE DESIRE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF CORPUS
CHRISTI TO IMPROVE THE ACCESSABILITY TO I.H. 37
EXPRESSWAY AT MCKENZIE ROAD; AND FURTHER REQUESTING
THAT THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC
TRANSPORTATION CONSTRUCT AN OFF RAMP AND AN ON RAMP
ON I.H. 37 EXPRESSWAY EAST OF MCKENZIE ROAD-
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas
has recognized the need for improved traffic accessability to I.H. 37
at McKenzie Road; and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Highways and Public Trans-
portation has determined through traffic studies that off and on ramps are
justified on I.H. 37 east of McKenzie Road:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi hereby requests that
the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation take appropriate
steps to add these two much needed ramps to the Interstate Highway System
in the City of Corpus Christi as soon as possible.
SECTION 2. The necessity to provide these interchange ramps on
I.H. 37 east of McKenzie Road creates a public emergency and an imperative
public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its intro-
duction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several
meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such emergency
and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter
rule and that this resolution be passed finally on the date of its intro-
duction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its
passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED, this the _day of June, 1977.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance,
a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the
Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed
finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request
that you suspend Said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City
Council.
