A RESOLUTION -
STATING THE INTENT OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO INCLUDE ITS ELECTED OFFICIALS r'
(MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS) IN ITS WORKMEN'S COM-
PENSATION COVERAGE,'SAID EXPANDED COVERAGE NOW
AUTHORIZED IN ARTICLE 8309h, VERNON'S ANNOTATED ;-
��: TEXAS STATUTES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, Senate Bill 133 introduced in the 65th Texas Legis-
lature was passed amending Section 1(2), Article 8309h, V.T.C.S., and ,
WHEREAS, this amendment authorizes workmen's compensation_,
coverage on an optional or voluntary basis for the elected officials of
political subdivisions, viz, mayors and council members, and
WHEREAS, this amendment to Article 8309h became effective
August 29, 1977 and must be implemented by resolution of the governing
body, s"
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi
hereby resolves its intent to provide coverage for its elected officials,
viz, mayor and council members, as provided in Section 1(2), Article 8309h,
V.T.C.S., effective August 29, 1977. =�
SECTION 2: That the necessity to include its elected officials
(mayor and council members) in the City's workmen's compensation coverage
at the = earliest practicable date creates a public emergency and an impera-
tive public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its intro'-`
duction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three
several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such
emergency and necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of the
Charter rule and that this resolution take effect and be in full force and
effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED this the

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance,
a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the
Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed
finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request
that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City
Council.
