HomeMy WebLinkAbout13984 RES - 10/19/1977A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, while attending the Texas Municipal League 65th Annual Conference in San Antonio, held October 16 through October 18, 1977, Council Member David Diaz and his wife, Helen, left the Convention Center on Sunday evening, at the onset of the citywide blackout, and while walking towards the hotel, Council Member Diaz, at great personal risk and danger to his safety and that of his wife, responded to a call for help in apprehending an armed and fleeing criminal who seriously injured another person during the encounter; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to express its appreciation and commendation to one of their fellow Council members: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Council Member David Diaz be commended for his assistance in apprehending an armed and fleeing criminal, and that the appreciation of the City Council, as the elected representatives of the citizens of Corpus Christi, be extended in recognition of his unselfish acts of citizenship and concern. SECTION 2. The necessity to immediately express the City i Council's gratitude and appreciation to Council Member Diaz creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the sus- pension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolu- tion shall be read at three several meetings of the-City Council, and the z} ' Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this resolution be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED, this the 19th day of October, 1977.
