HomeMy WebLinkAbout14039 RES - 11/16/1977• JKH:vp:11 /15/77:1Bt • A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the public has become increasingly aware of the threat which crime presents to the security of home and property; and WHEREAS, citizen involvement in crime prevention can decrease this threat and increase the effectiveness of local law enforcement efforts: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Mayor and members of the City Council urge all citizens to join with their local law enforcement officers in eliminat- ing the opportunity for criminal acts by becoming involved in crime preven- tion programs. SECTION 2. That the Mayor and members of the City Council endorse the following crime prevention programs offered by local law enforcement agencies and urge all citizens to take advantage of them: a. SECURITY SURVEYS for homes and /or businesses to ascertain those points most vulnerable to illegal entry. b. OPERATION ID - a program to mark the ownership of personal property, to aid in the apprehension and conviction of criminals and recovery of stolen property. c. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH to increase the security and protection from crime in local neighborhoods. SECTION 3. The necessity to urge citizen participation in crime prevention programs as aforesaid creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this resolution be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS qt ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED, this the AP day of November, 1977.
