HomeMy WebLinkAbout14094 RES - 12/21/1977A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Mrs. Barbara Hesse Rico, a long -time resident of the City of Corpus Christi was on December 18, 1977, called to her eternal rest; and WHEREAS, as a young student in 1953, Mrs. Barbara Hesse Rico was the design winner of a contest that was open to all junior and senior high school students for the design of an official flag for the City of Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, such flag, although simple in design, is symbolic of the City of Corpus Christi in that it is a two -color banner with a white seagull and white stars imposed on the sky blue background, the blue background representing the Corpus Christi Bay on which is situated the Naval Air Station, and the seagull superimposed thereon representing the people of Corpus Christi, both those who,were born and raised here and those who have come as visitors and friends to become residents, and the eight stars superimposed on the flag symbolizing the eight major industries of the City, being Agriculture, Commerce, Oil, Chemicals, Grains, Seafoods, Metals and Ore Refining, and Tourist Trade; and WHEREAS, among her many accomplishments Mrs. Barbara Hesse Ricu will be remembered for designing the coin commemorating the founding of Corpus Christi, for her talents as an architect and artist and for her work as Professor of Art at the University of Coahuila, Mexico for three years; and WHEREAS, the passing of this outstanding citizen is a great loss to the citizens of the City of Corpus Christi as well as to her family and many friends, leaving an irreplaceable void in the comunity: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this brief record of the many accomplishments of Mrs. Barbara Hesse Rico be recalled and that the citizens of this community join in mourning the loss of this valuable citizen.
