AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN
AGREEMENT WITH THE CORPUS CHRISTI INDEPENDENT
SCHOOL DISTRICT TO FUND AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
AT THE CORPUS CHRISTI MUSEUM AND TO AMEND THE
PROGRAM'S BUDGET FOR THE 1977 -78 CITY FISCAL YEAR;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to enter
into a contract with the Corpus Christi Independent School District for
the funding of an educational program at the Corpus Christi Museum, the City
to be responsible for the program's operation, the costs of which shall be
reimbursed by the school district.
SECTION 2. That the 1977 -78 No. 102 General Fund Budget shall be
amended by revising estimated revenues to reflect a $28,478 contribution
from the Corpus Christi Independent School District.
SECTION 3. The 1977 -78 Budget for the educational program (Activity
4012) shall be amended to cancel existing appropriations of $16,586 and
create new appropriations of $28,478.
SECTION 4. That the personnel schedule of the program shall be
amended with the addition of one Museum Teacher and the deletion of two
part -time Senior Clerks and two part -time Trades Helpers.
SECTION 5. That this ordinance shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage and publication in accordance with the provisions
of the City Charter of the City of Corpus Christi and it is accordingly
so ordained.
SECTION 6. The immediate necessity to authorize the aforesaid
agreement and to amend the Corpus Christi Museum Budget creates a public
emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension
of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally
on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor
having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested
the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally
on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and

effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this

The Corpus Christi Independent School District and the
City of Corpus Christi hereby enter into the following contract
for the purpose of providing funds to the Corpus Christi
Museum for a meaningful educational program for designated stu-
dents of this district under the following conditions:
1. During the 1977 -78 academic year (ending May 31, 1978),
the School District agrees to provide $28,478 to support
an educational program at the Corpus Christi Museum for
second.and fourth grade students. The School District
stipulates that the City of Corpus Christi will utilize
-these funds for the following components in order to
ensure a viable instructional program:
(a.) Employ a person certified in the field of education
to cooperatively plan an instructional program with
the school district's representatives; to work jointly
with school district representatives in scheduling
students to the Museum; and to implement and direct
the educational program.
(b) Provide transportation for designated students
scheduled to visit the museum.
(c) Develop and provide instructional units for teachers
of students scheduled to attend, as well as materials
which promote an understanding of the museum concept.

d. Provide the School District an annual evaluation of the
program.
2. The School District agrees to disburse the amount of money
($28,478.00) budgeted by the district to the City of Corpus
Christi for the educational program at the Corpus Christi
Museum upon request as follows:
1. September 1, 1977 $9,492.66
2. December 1, 1977 $9,492.67
3. March 1, 1978 $9,492.67

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance,
a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the
Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed
finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request
that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City
Council.
