A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Mr. Jesus Chavez "Cantinflitas" was born in Tampico,
Mexico, one of Corpus Christi's Sister Cities; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Chavez has been active in the entertainment field in
Mexico and South Texas for over 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Chavez was a stand -in for the famous Mexican entertainer
and actor, Mario Moreno Cantinflas, resulting in Mr. Chavez's nickname
"Cantinflitas "; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Chavez is a renowned professional comedian and dancer in
his own right; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Chavez has received two awards from the United States
military, one from General Westmoreland and one from Lieutenant General R. E.
Cushman, Jr. of the United States Marine Corps for contributing to the morale
of United States military men during the Vietnam War by performing for them in
Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Chavez has also given generously, liberally and freely
of his time and talent to aid numerous civic and charitable institutions and
causes in the community including churches, day care centers, hospitals
and the needy:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas
does hereby call attention to the many accomplishments of Mr. Jesus Chavez
"Cantinflitas" and publicly commends and expresses its appreciation for his
tireless and unselfish efforts on behalf of the citizens of this community.
SECTION 2. The City Secretary is hereby instructed to forward a copy
of this resolution to Mr. Chavez.

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance,
a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the
Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed
finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request
that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City
Council.
