PROHIBITING SMOKING IN THE CITY COUNCIL
CHAMBERS OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS..
WHEREAS, the Council Chamber of the City has a capacity
of approximately 75 persons, and the number of persons at Council
meetings frequently exceeds the seating capacity of the Council
Chamber with many persons either sitting in temporary seating
or standing; and
WHEREAS, the 64th Legislature - prohibited smoking in
certain public facilities and specifically reserved to all govern-
mental entities the right to prohibit smoking in any place within
the jurisdiction of said governmental entity; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the public health
and safety will be enhanced by prohibiting smoking in the Council
Chamber:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That smoking be prohibited at all times in
the City Council Chamber.
SECTION 2. That the City Secretary is hereby directed
to:
a. Post signs in the Council Chamber prohibiting smok-
ing and describing the penalty for violation thereof, and
b. Place at the entrances to the Council Chamber facili-
ties for extinguishment of smoking materials.
