WHEREAS, John G. Carlisle retired from City service on January 22,
1979; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Carlisle served in the Corpus Christi Fire Department
for 42 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Carlisle was Chief of the Fire Department for
32-1/2 years; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure with the Department, Chief Carlisle
was a dedicated public servant who strove to provide the citizens of Corpus
Christi with an efficient, capable and well-trained firefighting force; and
WHEREAS, Chief Carlisle was recognized by his peers for his
extensive knowledge of firefighting techniques; and
WHEREAS, because of Chief Carlisle's efforts, the Corpus Christi
Fire Department was one of the first in the State to have proper breathing
apparatus on all trucks, to use time -saving preconnected water lines, and
to pressure test fire hoses:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi,
Texas hereby expresses its deepest appreciation and gratitude and that of
the citizens of Corpus Christi to Fire Chief John G. Carlisle upon his
retirement for his many years of outstanding service and dedication to the
City of Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Fire Department.
SECTION 2. That the City Council also wishes for Chief
Carlisle a pleasant and happy retirement.
SECTION 3. That the City Secretary of the City of Corpus Christi
is hereby instructed to provide a copy of this resolution to Chief Carlisle.
SECTION 4. That the City Council wishes to express appreciation
to retiring Fire Chief John Carlisle for his long, outstanding career in
public service at the earliest practicable date creates a public emergency
and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter
rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date

of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read
at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared
such emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension
of the Charter rule and that this resolution be passed finally on the date
of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from
and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY 50 RESOLVED, this the 7 day
of February, 1979.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance,
a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the
Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed
finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request
that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City
Council.
