HomeMy WebLinkAbout14990 ORD - 07/11/1979JBA:jkh:3rd 7-11-79 t AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING THAT ARTICLES 1 AND 2 OF HOUSE BILL 1060 ENACTED BY THE SIXTY-SIXTH TEXAS LEGISLATURE, PERTAIN- ING TO VALUATION OF AGRICULTURAL PROPERTY, NOT APPLY TO 1979 TAXES LEVIED OR COLLECTED BY THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi finds that it is impractical to implement Articles 1 and 2 of House Bill 1060 enacted by the Sixty -Sixth Texas Legislature, pertaining to valuation of agricultural property for 1979 taxes due to the lack of time required for compiling data for standards of comparison and determining the legal criteria for eligibility before expiration of the statutory deadlin NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. As authorized by Article 13, Section 1(b) of House Bill 1060, as enacted by the Legislature and signed into law by the Governor of Texas, Articles 1 and 2 of said House Bill 1060 shall not apply in the City of Corpus Christi to 1979 taxes levied or collected by the City of Corpus Christi, Texas. SECTION 2. The necessity to declare that it is impractical to implement Articles 1 and 2 of said House Bill 1060, pertaining to valuation of agricultural property, due to the lack of time required for compiling data for standards of comparison and determining the legal criteria for eligibility before expiration of the statutory deadline, creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally 14990 on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the day of July, 1979.
