HomeMy WebLinkAbout15059 ORD - 08/15/1979jkh:8-6-79;1-st- AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, 1976 REVISION, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING CHAPTER 36, PARKS, RECREATION, CULTURAL AND LEISURE TIME ACTIVITIES, ARTICLE II. COLISEUM AND EXPOSITION HALL, BY ADDING A NEW SECTION, 36-27A, ADOPTING REGULATIONS FOR THE DISPLAY OF FIREARMS AT GUN SHOWS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Code of Ordinances, City of Corpus Christi, 1976 Revision, as amended, be amended by amending Chapter 36, Parks, Recreation, Cultural and Leisure Time Activities, Article II. Coliseum and Exposition Hall, by adding a new section, 36-27A, adopting regulations for the display of firearms at gun shows, to hereafter read as follows: "Sec. 36-27A: Firearms. Any gun show or other event involving any display or other use of firearms in Memorial Coliseum or Exposition Hall shall comply with the following regulations: No ammunition, cartridges, collector's cartridges, cases, caps, bullets, primers, or any other explosive device shall be allowed in the building. Every cartridge firearm shall have a visible, approved device attached rendering the firearm inoperable. The Coliseum Manager may grant an excep- tion for firearms displayed for an awards competition in a controlled access area. No clip shall be placed in any firearm, whether or not the firearm is inoperative. The lessee shall cause every firearm to be inspected upon entry to the building, and further shall cause every display to be inspected hourly during the event, to ensure compliance with these regulations. Additional safety rules and regulations may be included by addendum in the lease contracts for such events." SECTION 2. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in con- flict herewith be and the same are repealed to the extent of such conflict. MICROFILMED 15059 a7 1980 SECTION 3. MOTION Council Member David Diaz moved and Mayor Pro Tem Edward Sample seconded the motion that the ordinance proposing to add Section 36-27A to Chapter 36 of the Corpus Christi City Code concerning display of firearms at gun shows in the Coliseum and Exposition Hall, read on the first two of three readings on July 29, 1979 and August 2, 1979, be amended prior to its third and final reading as follows: A. 'Amend the third paragraph by adding the word "cartridge" after the first word in the paragraph (every) and by deleting the words, "shall have the shell chamber visible for inspection at all times, or". B. Add the following sentence to the third paragraph of said Section 36-27A: "The Coliseum Manager may grant an exception for firearms displayed for an awards competition in a controlled access area." C. Add the following paragraph to Section 36-27A: "Additional safety rules and regulations may be included by adden- dum in the lease contracts for such events." Dated August 8. 1979.
