HomeMy WebLinkAbout15137 ORD - 09/26/1979vp:9/25/79:1s.t AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH CLAUDE CHAPMAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, INC., FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF VARIOUS WATER SYSTEM IMPROVE- MENTS, PHASE 1; APPROPRIATING $500,000 OUT OF THE N0.'162 FEDERAL/STATES GRANT FUND, ACTIVITY 4741, CODE 502, OF WHICH $23,785 IS FOR ADDITIONAL ENGIN- EERING, CONTINGENCY AND INCIDENTAL EXPENSES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1.• That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized to execute a contract with Claude Chapman Construction Company, Inc., for the construction of Various Water System Improvements, Phase 1, all as more fully described in the plans and specifications and contract documents on file in the office of the City Secretary, all of which are made a part hereof by reference and according to the bid of Claude Chapman Construction Company, Inc., opened on September 19, 1979, said bid being the lowest and most advantageous to the City of Corpus Christi. SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated the sum of $500,000 out of the No. 162 Federal/States Grant Fund, Activity 4741, Code 502, of which $23,785 is for additional engineering, contingency and incidental expenses. SECTION 3. That the necessity to authorize execution of the afore- said contract and to provide the necessary funds in order to accomplish the aforesaid improvements creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the 2L day of September, 1979.
