HomeMy WebLinkAbout15225 ORD - 11/14/1979jkh:11-13-79;lst AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8127, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 700 SPECIAL COMPENSATION PROVISIONS, SUBSECTION 704.2 TO PROVIDE FOR MONTHLY CLOTHING ALLOWANCE FOR EACH POLICE OFFICER OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND FOR EACH FIREFIGHTER OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR UNIFORM AND CLOTHING CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE; AMENDING SUBSECTION 705 BY ADDING A PARAGRAPH SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR ASSIGN- MENT PAY OF $10 PER MONTH TO FIREFIGHTERS WHO ARE CERTIFIED AS PARAMEDICS AND WHO PERFORM AMBULANCE DUTIES FOR A MINIMUM OF SIX (6) HOURS OF EACH 12 -HOUR DAY OF THE 24-HOUR SHIFT; AMENDING SUBSECTION 706 TO PROVIDE LONGEVITY PAY OF $6 PER MONTH FOR EACH COMPLETE YEAR OF SERVICE UP TO A MAXIMUM OF 15 YEARS OF SERVICE WITH LONGEVITY PAY OF $4 PER MONTH PAID THEREAFTER FOR EACH YEAR OF SERVICE TO A MAXIMUM OF 25 YEARS; PROVIDING A SEVERANCE CLAUSE; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Ordinance No. 8127, providing for administration of the Compensation Plan for all positions in the City service, as amended, be amended by amending Section 700, Special Compensation Provisions, by amending Subsection 704.2 to hereafter read as follows: "704.2 A clothing allowance of $300 shall be paid to all Police Officers who are required by order of the Chief of Police to wear civilian clothing during their work assignment. For each year thereafter, the City shall pay up to $300 for replacement cost for those persons so authorized. A clothing allowance of $15 per month shall be provided to each Police Officer of the Police Department and to each Firefighter of the Fire Department for the purpose of uniform and clothing cleaning and maintenance." SECTION 2. That Subsection 705 Field Training Officer Pay be amended by adding a new paragraph to hereafter read as follows: "Firefighters who are certified as paramedics shall be paid assign- ment pay at the rate of $10 for every 24-hour shift in which they are assigned to ambulance duty. Such pay shall be calculated as follows: the paramedic shall be paid $5 for working ambulance duties 6 hours or more in any 12 -hour day. No assignment pay shall be paid for working less than 6 hours ambulance duty in any 12 -hour day. Provided, however, that when a paramedic is assigned to work a 12 -hour shift, but is injured in the course of his duties before completing 6 hours he shall be paid the $5 assignment pay." 01. cOS 15225 SECTION 3. That Subsection 706 Longevity Pay be amended to here- after read as follows: "706 Longevity Pay Longevity pay for Police Officers shall be $6 per month for each complete year of service up to a maximum of 10 years of service. Thereafter, for each additional year of service, longevity pay shall be $4 per month for each year up to a maximum of 25 years of service. Longevity pay for Firefighters shall be $6 per month for each complete year of service up to a maximum of 15 years of service. Thereafter, for each additional year of service, longevity pay shall be $4 per month for each year up to a maximum of 25 years of service." SECTION 4. The effective date of the above changes shall be July 30, 1979. SECTION 5. The necessity to maintain at all time an efficient administration of City affairs creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordi- nance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the j)/ day of November, 1979.
