ENDORSING A RECOMMENDATION FOR THE CLOSING OF U. S.
HIGHWAY 181 EXIT RAMPS AT KLEBERG PLACE, HOTEL PLACE AND
TIMON BOULEVARD TO PROVIDE FOR IMPROVED TRAFFIC SAFETY.
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi and State Department of
Highways and Public Transportation have joint responsibility for
providing improved traffic safety at intersection of State -maintained
roadway facilities with City -maintained roadway facilities; and
WHEREAS, the removal of said exit ramps would result in
increased safety associated with improvements being constructed on
U. S. Highway 181 and adjacent street facilities; and
WHEREAS, the removal of said exit ramps is a necessary
action that must take place in order to implement the City's
Surfside/Timon Street Improvements; and
WHEREAS, the State has specified the City's responsibility
to conduct the necessary public hearing for the said ramp closings and
to enact a resolution expressing support of this closure.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council endorses the closing of
U. S. Highway 181 exit ramps at Kleberg Place, Hotel Place and Timon
Boulevard for increased safety to the travelling public, all as more
fully set forth in Exhibit A.
