ADOPTING A POSITION NOT TO REDUCE OR RELINQUISH THE
EXTRA -TERRITORIAL JURISDICTION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI
OVER MUSTANG ISLAND.
WHEREAS, the City of Port Aransas has requested the City
Council of Corpus Christi relinquish to the City of Port Aransas the
extra -territorial jurisdiction of the City of Corpus Christi over
Mustang Island; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas Local Government Code
establishes and allocates the extra -territorial jurisdiction over
Mustang Island between the City of Corpus Christi and the City of Port
Aransas; and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has adopted official
policies, goals and objectives regarding annexations, and economic
development, and has reviewed the population densities, patterns of
growth, transportation, topography, and land use in the affected area;
and
WHEREAS, Mustang Island is currently not zoned, has limited
controls, and is currently less than 5 percent developed; and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has previously
communicated to the City of Port Aransas that relinquishing the
extra -territorial jurisdiction of the City of Corpus Christi on
Mustang Island is not acceptable or appropriate; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi has
considered the request from the City of Port Aransas in light of
adopted policies, and the benefits to Mustang Island, the City of Port
Aransas and the City of Corpus Christi;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi shall not
relinquish its extra -territorial jurisdiction rights on Mustang Island
to the City of Port Aransas.
