HomeMy WebLinkAbout022900 ORD - 04/15/1997AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CODE OF ORDINANCE § 2-75; MEMBERSHIP; TERMS AND FILLING VACANCIES TO CHANGE THE NUMBER OF LIBRARY BOARD MEMBERS FROM 12 TO 10; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Code of Ordinance Section 2-75; membership; terms and filling vacancies is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 2-75. Membership; terms and filling vacancies. There shall be a library board consisting of twelve ten (10) members. Ten eight (8) members shall be appointed by the city council with terms of two (2) years or until a successor is appointed, and two (2) members shall be ex officio members: The president of the La Retama Club shall be an ex officio member; and the president of the Friends of Corpus Christi Public Libraries shall be an ex officio member without vote. Terms of members appointed by the city council shall expire November 5, five (5) in odd years and five (5) in even years. The library board may make recommendations to the city council for new board members. A vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term by the same means as the original appointment. SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof shall be given full force and effect for its purpose unless such holding has the effect of diminishing the revenue payable to the City under any agreement entered into under this ordinance. 96\AG\5000.170.1a 2900 %K OOI E© 2 vi,t the foregoi g ordinance was read for tJ}e first time and passed to its second reading on this the vi Day of 1l , 19 by the following vote: Mary Rhodes Dr. Jack Best Betty Black Melody Cooper Tony Heldenfels Betty Jean Longoria John Longoria Edward A.
