COMMEMORATING THE PUBLIC SERVICE OF MARY RHODES AS
COUNCIL MEMBER 1987-1991 AND MAYOR 1991-1997
WHEREAS, Mary Rhodes has distinguished herself as a policy maker in the realm of
Municipal Government, has provided exemplary service as Mayor of the City of Corpus Christi; and
Mary Rhodes has earned the respect and confidence of her fellow City Council Members, State and
National Governmental Representatives, City Staff and the Citizens of Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, Mary Rhodes is proud to be considered the "No Nonsense Mayor" serving
the City of Corpus Christi for 10 years as not only a Mayor and Council member, but as a strong role
model for the community, leading with solid family values and sincere dedication to our next
generation; and
WHEREAS, along with successfully accomplishing many career goals, Mary Rhodes has
championed the acquisition of a dependable, quality water supply for our city and region; and has been
instrumental in planning for a strong economic future while enhancing the quality of life for our
citizens with a heightened concern for our environment; and
WHEREAS, Mary Rhodes has led by example, standing steadfast on the resolution of
many critical issues, and earning a favorable reputation for the City of Corpus Christi as its chief
elected official.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI:
That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi for and on behalf of the citizens of the City
commemorate the public service of Mary Rhodes as Council Member and Mayor (1987-1997). The
City expresses its appreciation for the many lifetime accomplishments and contributions that she has
made to our community, and wishes her well on her new life endeavors.
