ESTABLISHING THE COMMUNITY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT STEERING
COMMITTEE AS AN AD HOC ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI AND APPOINTING THE PRESENT MEMBERS OF
SUCH COMMITTEE TO THE NEWLY ESTABLISHED CITY
COMMITTEE;
WHEREAS, the Community Youth Development Program is designed to develop and
implement a program to reduce juvenile crime in an effort to empower youth to become productive
citizens;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi desires to promote youth
programs to reduce juvenile crime and empower youth to become productive citizens;
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has entered into a contract with the Texas
Department of Protective and Regulatory Services to sponsor a Community Youth Development
Program for children, youth, parents, and families who attend school or reside in the 78415 zip code
of Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi desires to appoint an ad hoc
committee to advise the the City Council regarding the Community Youth Development Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. There is hereby established the Community Youth Development Steering
Committee as an ad hoc committe of the City of Corpus Christi with 16 voting and 4 non-voting
advisory members appointed for terms of one year with the first term expiring August 31, 1997,
whose members will serve at the pleasure of the City Council, consistent with state guidelines.
SECTION 2. The Community Youth Development Program Steering Committee will
advise the City Council on a periodic basis, as requested by the City Council, regarding the progress
of the Community Youth Development Program and make recommendations to the City Council
on items pertaining to the Community Youth Development Program.
SECTION 3. The current membership of the Community Youth Development Program
Steering Committee, attached as Exhibit A, operating under a contract between the Workforce
Development Corporation and the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services, is
hereby appointed as the Community Youth Development Program Steering Committee, an ad hoc
committee of the City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 4. The Community Youth Development Program Steering Committee is

automatically disestablished upon the expiration of the City of Corpus Christi's contract, and any
renewal thereof, with the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services to sponsor a
Community Youth Development Program.
